THE ROLE OF THE MASS MEDIA IN THE FORMATION OF CIVIL SOCIETY: PROBLEMS AND TENDENCIES ; РОЛЬ ЗМК У ПРОЦЕСАХ ФОРМУВАННЯ ГРОМАДЯНСЬКОГО СУСПІЛЬСТВА: ПРОБЛЕМИ ТА ТЕНДЕНЦІЇ
The article analyzes the place and role of the mass media (mass media) in the formation and development of civil society. It is noticed that the modern stage of development of society is characterized by the intensification of the principles of the mediatization of political reality, the actualization of the role of symbolic and information exchanges in the sociopolitical space, the strengthening of the influence of mass information and communication flows and, in particular, the influence of mass communication on the deployment of all political and social processes. Thus, there is a need for a conceptual understanding of information and communication factors in the formation and implementation of the principles of civil society in Ukraine. The potential of mass media is revealed in terms of mediating a constructive dialogue between different groups of society to maintain their unity and consolidation, also to attract citizens to the public sector. It is noted that the mass media appear as the most important component of civil society, constructing an active information and communication field, in which there are equal opportunities for all partners. The mutual responsibility of relations is ensured as well as openness and publicity of interaction between the parties and a functional balance between the interests of the state and society. The main reasons for mistrust in the media are revealed: they are unreliability and bias of news, nationalization, and commercialization of mass media, increased requirements of citizens to the compliance with journalistic standards in matters related to social problems; to media discourse that promotes/does not contribute to a decrease in the level of conflict in Ukrainian society; to the ability of mass media to adequately explain the crisis, its scale and social consequences, the low level of trust in media owners, as well as the growing level of media literacy of the population.
